Rosewood (Dalbergia Retusa)

This is a medium size tree (45 to 60 feet height and diameter from 20 to 25 inches) that is located from the Southeast of Mexico to the Northeast of Colombia. The color of the heartwood is variable when it has been just cut; exposure darks the lighter colors and becomes a spectacular interlocked grain pattern of deep red colors with purple, orange and yellow tones. Natural oils in the wood tend to promote waterproofing.
Fustic (Maclura Tinctoria)
From medium to large size, this tree is located in Mexico coasts, Central America and some places of South America. Is a very hard and heavy wood. Fresh heartwood is bright yellow, when it is drying it becomes golden yellow, changing upon exposure to caramel tones combined with the yellow tones. Variable grain, most of the time interlocked. Its heartwood is very marked from the nearly white sapwood.
